Biography

Sen. Marco Rubio serves as the senior senator from the state of Florida.

Though Sen. Rubio did not contest the certification of the 2020 election results, his actions are far from admirable. He danced around whether or not Joe Biden was legitimately elected, deciding instead to blame the media. “For those in the media who are angry that Republicans won’t just take their word for it that Biden won — I think you need some self-awareness,” Rubio said. Where he could have dispelled the lies being told by Donald Trump and other Republican officials, he merely expressed concern that “you got half this country that has doubts about the veracity of this election.”

The Jan. 6 insurrection was also not enough to bring Sen. Rubio to take a stand against Trump’s lying and incitement of violence. During the impeachment trial, he called impeaching Trump “arrogant” and accused the left of “political intimidation” for his vote to acquit. Sen. Rubio could have taken a strong stand against the assault on our democracy, but he chose to passively dismiss it instead.
